Light Trace was founded in 2021 – we have sold our first products and are expanding the team.

About the Role:

As a Software Engineer at Light Trace Photonics, you will play a pivotal role in the development and delivery of an innovative design licensing service, alongside other internal software development projects. You’ll work closely with our team of experts to design and implement an online service for integrated photonic design licensing, enabling our customers to bring their products to market faster. Your work will directly contribute to accelerating innovation in the integrated photonics space, making a tangible impact on the future of technology.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and manage a scalable data management system, working closely with our integrated photonics team;

  • Develop software for internal usage (e.g. dashboards, interfaces);

  • Develop lab software for photonic chip testing and data visualisation;

  • Advise management to ensure best practices in software development across the company; and

  • Liaise with external software engineering consultancies, ensuring their work aligns with project goals and timelines.

Core Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong Python 3.0 coding and debugging skills;

  • Experience in database design, management, and optimisation;

  • Experience with server-side languages (e.g., Node.js and Python) for backend development;

  • Proficient in developing Python-based dashboards for internal use;

  • Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams, collaborating with external parties and internal stakeholders;

  • Strong communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical team members; and

  • Experience with best practices in code development (versioning, unit tests etc.).

Nice to haves:

  • Experience managing networked applications;

  • Optics and/or machine control experience;

  • Understanding of database security best practices and data compliance standards (e.g., GDPR); and

  • Experience developing and deploying industry-grade software.
