November 2024, Bristol UK
We are delighted to announce that Nick Sturge, a key adviser to Light Trace Photonics over the past year, has officially joined our board as a non-executive director.
Over the last year, Nick has played a pivotal role as a business advisor and mentor at Light Trace, helping us establish a strong foundation for growth, guiding our commercial strategy, and championing our mission across the broader ecosystem. His invaluable insights have contributed significantly to our progress, and we are excited to have him take on an expanded role where he will provide governance and continued strategic direction as part of our growing board of seasoned entrepreneurs.
Nick's career is marked by a wealth of experience and success. He began at the UK semiconductor company Inmos and later co-founded Motion Media Technology, leading the company to a successful IPO in 1996. His visionary leadership also transformed the SETsquared Bristol Centre into the world's top university business incubator, a title it held in 2015, 2018, and 2019.
Beyond his entrepreneurial ventures, Nick has been a driving force for sustainable and inclusive growth. He founded Engine Shed, a collaboration between the University of Bristol and Bristol City Council, which has been instrumental in supporting the region’s digital economy. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Nick was awarded an MBE in 2019.
Nick says:
“I’m honoured to be joining the board of Light Trace Photonics, at such an important time – with their first investment and at the cusp of a revolution in computing and communications that will benefit from the integrated photonics technology that the Light Trace team is pioneering.
Working with early-stage founders is always a joy but it’s particularly exciting to be supporting Jake and Dom on their journey. Their intellect, tenacity and technical prowess will, I have no doubt, ensure that the potential of the Light Trace business opportunity is fulfilled.”
We are thrilled to welcome Nick to the Light Trace family and look forward to his continued contributions as we advance our mission to drive innovation in integrated photonics. Please join us in giving Nick a warm welcome!
